February 22nd, 2010

Hey cool persons! I just wanted to give you avid sitecheckers a heads up that I’m heading out of town briefly and the next strip is delayed ’til I return.  I’ll be out working on another silly project.

Out of curiousity, how many of you visitors are hiphopheads?

I said a hip, hop, the hippie, the hippie
To the hip hip hop, you don’t stop
The rock it to the bang bang boogie
    Say up jumped the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat.

I have friends who are hiphopheads, and I enjoy the music a lot, but I can’t say I’m familiar enough to use the term in reference to myself.

    Not really.

Just so you know, on the left it still says
copyright Michael Firman 2009, rather than 2010. You might wanna fix that just in case :)

I’m with the old lady and her Sugarhill Gang. You youngsters don’t listen to good music, you only have time to your fancy phones, wrist computers, magic scarves, hulla paloolas and poo jokes.

Origamibunny, thanks for the heads up!

Also high five to the hiphop heads, that’s already more than I expected. Rap’s my favourite thing to listen to and I was thinking of going forth with a graphic-novel type comic project next with a heavy hip hop influence and setting. I wasn’t expecting there’d be much crossover between the audience it might attract and the fanbase here.

Oh man, I would love that. While finding the good stuff in hip hop takes a little effort, that good stuff is /fantastic/.

Wait, Moe’s into the fresh beats?

Hip hop, dub and reggae are all that is in my collection since 1989.

Nonono. Classic rock is more my thing. You should have Moe thrash out some wicked chords on a Les Paul instead.

I too am an avid fan of hip hop Milton.

    We are so alike.

  23. Milton
    March 8th, 2010 at 4:48 pm

    We are scarily alike.
Is this like a tame version of Fight Club?

  24. Milton 2
    March 8th, 2010 at 7:22 pm

I wouldn’t say it was tame, our tale has just started, It could get a lot worse.

  25. Milton
    March 8th, 2010 at 7:25 pm

To the point of a large terrorist organisation?

  26. Milton 2
    March 9th, 2010 at 2:35 pm

If that’s the route we take to choose together. It could be a large organisation for baking cookies, It seems tame; however that’s very intense for the average housewife.

    Cookies sound good.

I am kind of into hiphop a little bit

i enjoy doom and sage francis anyway; i don’t know whether they are considered ‘good’ or what

have you heard the new gorillaz album yet, firman? DO YOU LOVE IT

  33. Firman
    March 13th, 2010 at 9:19 am

Plastic Beach was kind of a let down for me! I was really excited about the album and the trailers were all great, but as I listened through it I couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed and a little bored by each track. Maybe it’s because Demon Days was so incredible, but this one didn’t really do much for me. Loved the music video for Stylo, though!

Also all the rap artists people have mentioned thus far are cool, including Bret and Jemaine.

I’m a huge hip hop fan, though its not always easy in Vancouver. Just checked out The Cool Kids at Venue on wednesday, they played a pretty sick set.

Your Louis Logic picture is amazing, I dig the other hip-hop portraits too

  35. Fletcher
    March 13th, 2010 at 8:25 pm

i definitely think a lot of the plastic beach tracks are a bit shitty, but several of them are already in my “favourite ever” list (empire ants, superfast jellyfish, rhinestone eyes)

come to think of it i mostly like the non-hiphop tracks

so yeah, i guess as a hiphop record its a bit of a letdown. OH WELL
