I still don’t get the “new” CBH. When he was given parole, he was still thin … so he bulked up and got tattoos either during his last day in jail, or afterwards.

No, the alternate ending of the movie is that Neo takes the blue pill instead of the red. The film continues on as Neo is just waking up and doing everything else in his everyday “life”.
