Let’s complain about things that are idiots!
That’s what blogs are for, right?
Since my chosen field of interest is webcomics, let’s talk about bigshot webcomics that think they are so cool but you know what? They’re not.
I’m referring specifically to Dinosaur Websequentials by Ryan North. Yeah sure he is a big guy and could beat me up but that doesn’t change the fact that his comics are basically one dinosaur saying something funny, then another dinosaur continuing the funny, and finally a punchline where either of the dinosaurs or God conclude with something that is the most funny (eg. STUPID). Here is my impression of a Dinosaur Comics comic:
UPDATE: Oh God! It turns out today Mr. North decided to link to Firman Productions from his front page! THIS WAS THE WORST POSSIBLE DAY TO MAKE THIS POST.
Pretend you didn’t see me write anything about Dinosaurs earlier. Pretend it was all about this other dumb bum comic MSPaint Adventures by Andrew Hussie. This is the actual stupid webcomic I was trying to call stupid. It’s not even a comic really, it’s just a bunch of panels that you read in order and then laugh about. What is with that? Here is my impression of an MSPaint Adventure:
UPDATE NO. 2: What the hell! MSPA has been linking to me also! I cannot believe how embarrassed I am getting in front of everybody in my own home. I guess we know who the true doofus comic is.
March 31st, 2009 at 4:06 pm
I cried aloud with mirth and merriment
March 31st, 2009 at 4:12 pm
I just was googling “the true doofus comic” so I could never ever read it and I found this one! I guess this ‘Moe Comics’ is pretty terrible, huh?
March 31st, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!

PS: Throw Hat down in Stupidity.
April 1st, 2009 at 7:31 am

PS: Ride dinosaur like a mechanical bull.
April 1st, 2009 at 10:49 am
This has got to be an April Fool joke.
April 1st, 2009 at 11:24 am
BUT IT WAS POSTED ON LIKE MARCH 31ST DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
April 1st, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!
April 1st, 2009 at 1:02 pm
This is the point at which you’re supposed to say “April Fool!” and then admit that you wish you were as cool as Ryan North and his dinosaurs.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Livin’ in Duhhhhsville.
April 1st, 2009 at 6:13 pm
TOO MUCH IRONY.
EVERYONE PANIC.
April 1st, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Firman can act like a fool on April 1st, but acts like a doofus every day of the year.
April 1st, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Yuu arrr a fookin coont. Teh dinos have mor humorz in one fram3 than in ur entire livez!1
April 2nd, 2009 at 12:45 am
Only one thing I can say to this…. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooners.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:58 am
If you could post a version of the dinos saring duuuh suitable for desktop backgrounds, that would be most awesome…
My heart has a boner for it.
April 2nd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
now i feel weir because Duh is my nickname, i should have seen that comming
whatever, Moe is the best webcomic on da interwebs EVARR, its actualy funny, not that wishy-washy funny that you admit they have a point or hidden behind hueg amounts of dialogue
April 2nd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I agree, Gogurt! I’m already using that .gif as my go-to email response to obvious statements.
April 2nd, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Dinosaur Comics is utter drek. Unfunny jokes further restrained by the exact same clip-art repeated ad nauseum (with at least half of the “art” not related to the joke). Bah, gotta go read some PolkOut to clean my mind!
April 2nd, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Have I mentioned not only the tired clipart, it uses the same tired setup for each punchline? Et tu, originality?
April 2nd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Plus, what’s with all the dinosaurs? What is it? Some dinosaur comic or something?
April 2nd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Sanjay I’m starting to get real tired of all your Dinosaur Comic bashing on my website. It is a fine comic and I would gladly accept a book collection of it in lieu of life saving surgery.
Sucks to be whoever it was that needed the surgery I traded away, though.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Oh, Firman! You slay me!
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:31 pm
SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS, BUT IT HAS DINOSAURS!
How could it be anything but awesome? Seriously!
Dinosaurs!
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Firman, you would pay for a book with the absolute same crappy content on every page over and over again? You and your short attention span amuse me!
April 3rd, 2009 at 12:46 am
Looks like someone’s iPenis has shrunk to a singularity.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:25 am
you find amusement in something which I DON’T FIND AMUSEMENT
GOD DAMNIT
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 am
Sure, I would buy a book with the same artwork on every page… I would, in fact, buy a book without ANY pictures in it! Only now do I realize how unoriginal that is. The last book I read had totally lacked different drawing-things on every page… I’ve been ripped off!
If you don’t share Ryan’s sense of humor, that’s fine. Not everyone finds the same things funny. But to criticize something by acting as if it’s central premise was an unintentional flaw… well, you just don’t come out ahead.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:41 am
You don’t come out ahead by using the same, flawed joke ad nauseum.
Have I mentioned how the clipart doesn’t match anything?
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:05 am
You crack me up, Firman.
A book with 6 panels, over and over again?
Distressing.
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 am
Dinosaur Comic’s appeal is in that premise of never (Or rarely) changing the panels and yet coming up with something entertaining through each panel. You’ll find that you have to be pretty creative in order to come up with something entertaining nearly every day (And there’s over a 1000 of them, folks) that will be not the same tired drab.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constrained_comics
It’s not like Ryan is unable to be any good at being an artist – He has other comics which don’t follow under this ideal. Dinosaur Comics is the way it is because that’s part of the joke. If you don’t think that’s cool, so be it. A lot of others didn’t either. But there’s just as many who pull enjoyment from there and it’s notoriety IS a bit more on the up and up than most web comics because it IS genuinely funny.
That’s pretty impressive considering it’s the same exact 6 panels over and over.
Also, just wanted to mention that this comic has some kind of appeal that I can’t place my finger on. Moe is special in it’s own way. Maybe because of the simplicity it has? Instead of making a grand story, it just interjects itself with failure, disappointment, and overall randomness and violence. Good times!
April 3rd, 2009 at 8:44 am
More like conLAMEed comics.
April 3rd, 2009 at 8:49 am
This is a stupid argument and Schadenfreude is a stupid person for taking it so seriously. Here, let me break it down for you:
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
April 3rd, 2009 at 9:02 am
Hello everyone. I’m a nice, reasonable person who doesn’t shit-talk people on the Internet, ever, and just wanted to announce that Dinosaur Comics often brighten my day. I enjoy Ryan North’s sense of humor and respectfully suggest that you refrain from visiting his website if you don’t. Problem solved! How amusingly different we all are in our tastes and predelictions! It’s almost as if the world is made up of billions of psychologically distinct people.
Ryan, keep up the good times!
April 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 am
well now, i really think that everyone was missing the point of the original blog post. i do believe the point was not to diss dinosaur comics or MSpaint Adventures at all, but rather was making a joke about the fact that MOE was linked by both of these sites. take a pill guys, was there ANY sincere criticism to start? i think not.
April 3rd, 2009 at 11:49 am
Sorry Michael! Internet Law requires that no matter how painfully obvious sarcasm is, not everyone will get the joke!
For fun, try writing something SO STUPID that everyone thinks it’s a joke. (HINT: this is impossible).
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:09 pm
All this idiocy makes me hungry for a chocochop, served with a glass of Squid Ink of Pro Quo.
April 3rd, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Can we not just love one another? :3
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:12 pm
@kbmr: It can never be creative when it sticks to the same joke formula. As in, it’s FORMULAIC. It’s funny because it’s funny? You can enjoy the same strip 1000 times? Wow, just wow. Also, the conversation always moves in favor of the totally inappropriate clipart. A house? REALLY? A dinosaur that appears in only one panel and has no bearing on the rest? Ah I see. Humor incarnate.
@Ali: Who cares?! It’s fun ripping crap comics. I don’t read Thinkin’ Lincoln, but it does whatever it does better than DC does at anything.
@CheerfulBoar: You bore me. DUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! “Something on the intertubez cannots be discussed because it is on the intertubez, not matter how much it sucsk because that is how debate works!” Apparently, the medium is more important than the content.
@Sonia: “Hello everyone. It’s almost as if the world is made up of billions of psychologically distinct people.”
The tried-and-true method of “If you don’t like it, don’t read it!” always gets me! Alas, no more please! … I’m just playing around. Have you ever read John Solomon’s Bingo-board? I’d give you a link to that if you like. Telling me to not read it does not make it better. It is objectively terrible, and any printing is a waste of paper.
@Sara: No. Not as long as DC is on t3h webz, or at least as long as people find this drek amusing in the slightest. In fact, I would probably end up killing you in a matter of weeks. Not that I’m a violently-proned man or anything.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Counterpoint:
Dinosaur Comics are funny!!
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Schadenfreude: naty case of tl:dr there.
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
*nasty
April 3rd, 2009 at 2:47 pm
ShadenFraud, I am happy that rotten apple like you won’t be spoiling the DC community. The sad part is that Moe is a damn good comic and to see the kind of mr Shadenfraud here does not shine the light it deserves.
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Here there be trollin’
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
@Firman= Counterpoint: Dinosaur “Comics” is not funny!
@Sloth: Not really, you just can’t say anything in favor of DC other than, “It’s funny because it is funny!”
@Wolfen: The DC community is not worth spoiling if it thinks DC is funny; an oxymoron of sorts? Unless DC and Moe are so intertwined that one cannot find one funny w/o finding the other funny (And remember! One’s not!)… what’s your point?
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Firman! Counter-Counterpoint!
Dinosaur Comics are awesome! All caps awesome!
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
If I’m not mistaken, Dinosaur Comics is a single webcomic, so why the pluralization? (“are”?) I believe I’ve made my case about it being braind amaging.
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
brain damaging
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Hey, if you think my comic is funny, that is the most important thing! Everybody let’s find common ground in loving me (and giving me millions of dollars).
Actually I’m thinking of doing a t-shirt experiment within the next few days!
April 3rd, 2009 at 4:31 pm
As a symbol of good faith, wouldn’t it be better if you gave us a million t-shirts first and then we gave you the money?
April 3rd, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Schadenfreude, Dinosaur Comics is a plural because there are more than one of them surely? You click the little ‘Previous’ button and there’s a different comic, much like this site!
I either don’t think you’ve read many of them, or you’re just disagreeing for the hell of it, because it’s very similar humour to that of this comic! i.e. COMEDY GOLD
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Birmingham, you do not pluralize proper pronouns. That is just how English works. Do you call this comic Moes? No.
Please, in laymen’s terms, tell us why DC is funny. Give us a better reason than it is because it is. Because it is not, and I’ve given reasons for why it is not.
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Schadenfreude, I don’t think you know what a pronoun is!
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:29 pm
@ Schadenfreude
You’re formulaic.
(Realization should kick in… now.)
Also, buy a journal.
@ At news!
I apologize. You’d think I’d know better not to respond to someone whose name admits to garnering delight from the misfortune of others. Oh well. At least he’s around to provide some good contrast.
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:33 pm
My point would be that you bash DC because you believe the pictures to be flawed, and you can’t find anything funny. You obviously hate it, that’s ok with me since nobody as the same taste. How about you stop arguing with everybody and just enjoy this here comic ?
April 3rd, 2009 at 6:36 pm
.And go for the T-Shirt experiment, I need to buy some sooner or later. Have you talked with Topatoco?
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:05 pm
@Otzlowe
You’re right. All I need now is some totally inappropriate clipart and I can have a highly read Dilbert equivilant all my own! … Or I could just start a dc sux blog. xkcd has one. Still don’t know what the journal is for. WAIT.
As for me staying around, I’m like Haley’s comet. I shine brightly for one brief moment, or a day or two or a week or a month, and then disappear for 80 years.
What is funny about DC? Let’s get some prime examples to (fail to) win me over! I’m still not hearing any reason WHY it’s funny, just that it is.
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
@CheerfulBore: Whoops. Proper noun. Big deal. It still doesn’t excuse the “are.”
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
How about the fact that you can easily relate with 3 dinnosaur, for exemple
http://www.qwantz.com/archive/001400.html
http://www.qwantz.com/archive/001294.html
http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000096.html
3 first one i got by randomize.
April 3rd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Schadenfreude, more like Quatschkopfefreude !
blahblahblahblahblahblah
April 3rd, 2009 at 9:53 pm
@ Shameful Joy: Humor is subjective, not objective. You can complain about art and formula all you want, but in the end all you have is your opinion. You won’t convince people who find DC funny that is isn’t, because we will still laugh. Just as everyone else is wasting their time trying to make you “see the light.”
You’re the same as a food critic telling me to avoid that Italian restaurant I have been eating at every Friday for 9 years. I’m still going to get manicotti even though it’s prepared the same every day. Also, it’s delicious. Yum!
April 4th, 2009 at 12:58 am
Nobody’s trying to onvince you to like DC. We’re only telling you that we have just as much a right to like it as you have the right to like whatever YOU find funny.
And while we haven’t explained “why” it’s funny (which is almost impossible for any joke — try it), you haven’t explained why it’s NOT funny, beyond calling it formulaic. And just claiming that its the “same joke in every comic” does you no good — care to summarize what exactly that joke is that summarizes every single Dinasaur Comic?
April 4th, 2009 at 4:01 am
Make a Duuuuuh-Pic from Gabe and Tycho!
April 4th, 2009 at 6:09 am
Haha Schadenfreude is silly. He is a silly head.
April 4th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Dinosaur Comics makes jokes about determinism/solipsism/Leibniz’ “best of all possible worlds” argument. And they’re FUNNY. Perhaps it’s just my frustrated undergrad side coming out (there’s, like, six philosophy jokes in the whole world, and only two of them are any good), but I tip my hat to someone that can make me laugh using the same six panels (OH NO THE SAME SET-UP EVERY TIME IT’S LIKE WATCHING A MAGIC BILL HICKS DVD WHERE ALL THE JOKES ARE DIFFERENT EACH TIME YOU WATCH BUT, LIKE, IT’S STILL BILL HICKS SO IT’S ALL BORING AND STUFF) and a variety of basically very unfunny subjects.
In conclusion: DC rocks, Mr North is my god, and Leibniz is not generally a barrel of laughs. That is all.
April 4th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Last night I found this comic through DinoComics and read all of them and laughed pretty heartedly. You should totally make a twitter account so you can make me laugh when I’m not attached to the internet.
April 4th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
ALL THESE PEOPLE ARGUING= DUUUUUUUUUUUUH
April 4th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Guys, Schadenfreude is very obviously trolling. I bet you think Chad Warden was serious, too.
April 4th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
you are v. funny after like the fifth comment. at first i didn’t get it but THEN OH MY “A GENIUS INDEED” I TOLD MYSELF.
April 4th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I don’t get why Schadenfreude is deriving such pleasure from our pain.
April 4th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
I wish there was some kind of term to describe that.
April 5th, 2009 at 6:45 am
Hahaha awesome.
April 5th, 2009 at 9:02 am
@Sanjay. Sadist?
April 5th, 2009 at 11:18 am
No, I think there are sadder.
April 5th, 2009 at 11:25 am
The humor of Dinosaur Comics is a very special one, because almost everything funny is based on the text, and the pictures doesn’t get envolved. I’m not saying that everyone who doesn’t like DC is stupid, but it’s definetly more intelectual than other ones.
April 5th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
they see me trollin, they hatin
April 5th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
I disagree; I think Dinosaur Comics are hilarious!
April 5th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Dinosaur Comics are the best ever, proven fact.
April 6th, 2009 at 4:43 am
For what it’s worth, Dinosaur Comics makes me laugh out loud more consistently than any other comic. That’s all the proof I need that it’s funny.
“Dinosaur Comics”—————-> T-Rex
Schadenfreude’s Head———> 😮 “Duh”
April 6th, 2009 at 5:29 am
Ah Sanjay, I got it. It looks like it’s just us.
April 6th, 2009 at 8:10 am
Although Schadenfreude is obviously a troll, I do agree with a lot of his points about DC. But, as other people have said before me, that’s just a matter of opinion. NOT facts. And this is where he either totally disregards reason or where his obvious trolling comes to show. I’d like to think the second, since his posts do look like they’ve been thought about for at least 10 seconds.
But then his insistence to change all of your minds will be the reason you should see he’s an obvious troll. Not a single person formulating their statements with such (fake?) intelligence would ever get into his mind to try and convert *dumber* people (note: the stars mean dumb is just an subjective term as well, I’m not saying you’re dumb so please don’t take it that way)
But actually this was just an excuse to say: FIRMAN I LOVE YOUR COMIC! xD
PS: forgive my crappy grammar
April 7th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Ace Jon, ilu schadedfreude got it too!
April 7th, 2009 at 12:31 am
I think Schadenfreude is none other than mr.North himself. Clever satire!
April 8th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Dinosaur Comics are as cool as a T. Rex fighting an Raptor in an exploding Batmobile!
Oh noes! Could it be? I’m afraid the post stop developing short before they reach 100…
April 9th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Mr. Firman, I love you. If I wasn’t a heterosexual male I think I would have YOUR babies.
April 13th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Say what you will about Dinosaur Comics, it makes me laugh consistently at every page. I am still a fan of Moe, don’t get me wrong, but DC is my all-time favourite.
April 17th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
No I don’t think Shcadenwhatever’s a troll, everybody’s responses are logical and intelligent and quite frankly you’ll get more HUMOURS somewhere else, like.. Youtube.
WELL BACK TO THE ACTUAL POST
I have to say that this is probably the best first impression I could have of a website, ever. Self-degradetory jokes ftw!
May 3rd, 2009 at 4:09 am
I saw what you did there… ;P
May 9th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Sorry, old thread, I usually miss things WHEN they happen.
Anyway Firman, why did you let Shadenfraude do that? It IS your site….
Also let’s hope for the “disappear for 80 years” part.
May 9th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Comments are pretty much free-speech on this site. I only delete the ones that try too hard to be offensive just to get attention.
May 9th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Don’t feed the troll.
Anyone of admires Blogs basing on disliking something can’t be good.
Good grief, we almost hit 100 posts here!
May 9th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Anyways: DUUUUUUUHHHH
January 29th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
This is rubbish, comics about a naked aspergers man isn’t so funny either.
